Letter E-Mailed to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords this Morning
(with the help of Hugh Hewitt's website)
Dear Congresswoman Giffords,
I am in a unique position to evaluate the current push to drastically change the way health care is delivered in this country. I am both a physician and a cancer patient in your legislative district. I deal with insurance companies, Medicare and AHCCCS every day. Although, working with private insurance companies at times can be challenging, I can say unequivocally that more government control is not the answer. Rather, forcing insurance companies to compete and putting control back in the hands of patients is the best approach. As a patient, I also encourage you to oppose government-run health care and any legislation which might broaden the federal government's control over the state of the art health care I receive for my disease, or that my family may receive in the future.
Current health care legislation will result in lost health insurance and lost jobs for the American people and will push us deeper into recession. Recent polls clearly show that the people of Arizona are firmly against the current proposals as well as the lack of integrity the Democratic leadership has displayed in forcing this legislation through. I encourage you to break from your party leaders on this issue rather than commit political suicide for a dubious cause that you must know is beneath the dignity of your office. Rather, I encourage you to become a voice of reason. Go back to first American principles and salvage a sane remnant of the Democratic Party that will otherwise be decimated in November if this legislation passes.
I hope that you fight against health care legislation that would drive up costs, diminish quality and limit medical innovation. Please know that I'll be looking to see how you vote so that I know how I should vote this November.
Sincerely,
Craig Stump MD, PhD
