Vigorous Exercise Reduces Cancer Risk

Research reported in the most recent British Journal of Sports Medicine indicates that regular strenuous exercise protects against cancer. In this study investigators followed over 2500 Finnish middle age men for 16 years and found that those who participated in at least 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise each day were 50% less likely to develop cancer.

American Values Must be Marginalized to Advance Government Controlled Medical Care

Today’s New England Journal of Medicine features another, in a long line, of editorials championing more government involvement in your medical care and ultimately every aspect of your life. This article is particularly nauseating in that not only does it trumpet that “a single-payer system beats the competition hands down,” but it’s author Dr. Allan Brett takes a shot at the millions of Americans who believe that our great nation has achieved its exalted position in history because of a unique set of values and beliefs. Sure, if you deny that American values exist or scoff at the idea of American exceptionalism you might find reference to them as a “smoke screen” to the health care debate. But, to those of us who recognize that individual responsibility, free markets and trade, right to contract, and the right to choose and pursue one’s own interests are among the values that have made the United States the greatest, most generous, most successful nation that has ever existed do not consider their discussion superfluous. Alternatively, creating a panel of elitists like Dr. Brett who will decide whether or not you can see a physician or specialist, what your provider can ultimately do for you, and whether or not your life is worth covering is unquestionably antithetical to these American values. If the government can control your healthcare it can dictate virtually anything in your life.

If You Can't Deliver the Heat Stay Off the Mound

Every American boy should learn how to throw a baseball. When my boys were young I told them that they were required to play Little League baseball at least long enough to be proficient in the rudimentary skills of the game. They didn't have a problem with that particular mandate because they enjoyed throwing and hitting. Nevertheless, they were curious as to why this activity was non-negotiable. Now BHO has provided the perfect object lesson. You see being able to throw a baseball properly is a prerequisite to American manhood. You do not want to show up at a public event some day whether company picnic, family reunion or the Major League Baseball All-Star game and throw like a girl! You and your family may never recover from the humiliation. I am proud to report that like President Bush both my sons can zip it in there with the best of their peers. Unfortunately, it looks like mama Obama didn't insist that Barak play Little League.

Strenuous Sarah

I just read a nice article about Sarah Palin the runner at Runners World online. The legacy of family devotion and physical activity between generations is particularly inspiring. Sarah is a remarkable human being, the epitome of American womanhood. She unfailingly inspires women who desire to be strong, active and effective while remaining feminine. On the other hand, she appears to threaten those who continually attack her on every level and at any opportunity. I suspect she reminds them all too much of their unfulfilled lives, or challenges their desire to perpetuate victimhood in America.
