Olympian Common Sense

Male athletes are bigger, faster and stronger than female athletes. Duh...you're thinking. But suggesting innate differences between the sexes in a gathering of bio-deniers will likely put your well-being at significant risk. Google Lawrence Summers.
As the Olympics wind down it remains as obvious as ever that the times, distances, and weights lifted and thrown by men are superior to those of women. How much greater is their performance? Todd Gallagher put together a fascinating table for his August 22nd National Review Online article entitled Olympian Political Correctness which is shown below. Interestingly, world record performances by women are most comparable to those of 14-15 year old boys!

Don't get me wrong strenuous activity is as important for the health of girls and young ladies as for boys. Moreover, female vs. female athletic events can be compelling and dramatic as evidenced by the recent women's Olympics gymnastics finals. But, let's not fall into the politically correct trap of suggesting that women can compete against men at the highest levels of physical exertion.
