On March 31, 1931 Easter Heathman, 13 years old, witnessed the crash of Flight 599 near his family's Kansas farm. He was soon to learn that the tragic event had taken the life of Notre Dame's legendary coach Knute Rockne and 7 others. Heathman maintained a memorial on the site and devoted much of his time the past two decades giving tours to crash site visitors.
