"Just Let Me Sleep"
Gary Bauer has an interesting article on the Human Events website entitled “We Must Overcome Our Fear of Islam” where he chronicles a number of absurd responses from the educational and political elites to perceived affronts to Islam that have occurred in United States recently. He also compares these to similar incidents perpetrated against Christianity which, shall we say, didn’t attain the same level of urgency with the multicultural police. While I agree with Mr. Bauer as to the idiocy of attempting to pacify Muslim malcontents, I do not think for most this tendency is due to "fear." Obviously, for the hard core leftist it merely represents their typical self-loathing and disdain for the American culture. But, for most of the daydreaming public it represents an unhealthy affinity for choosing the path of least resistance. In other words, if the aforementioned absurdities are ignored or down-played the problem is more likely to go away. Or, if we just smile politely the Islamofascists will see that we are not really that bad, and just maybe they'll go and bother someone else. Yet, I suspect that deep down these same people know that eventually the problem will need to be addressed. It’s like lying in bed in the morning and hitting the snooze button a half dozen times. It's so nice to sleep just a little bit longer.
