Allow Citizens to Suppress Evil

Len Munsil and others have raised the question that has crossed my mind repeatedly since the horrendous events on the Virginia Tech campus earlier this week. That being how many of the 32 lives taken would have been saved if students and faculty had been allowed to protect themselves? It is clear that even the best efforts of federal, state and local law enforcement cannot limit, let alone prevent, the actions of a determined psychopath from inflicting enormous pain and destruction upon the vulnerable inhabitants of a “gun-free zone.” Institutions and politicians that continue to bar individuals from protecting themselves, not to mention the media who provide these lunatics a platform, will only contribute to more of these incidents. We need a prepared citizenry combined with a "Let's Roll" attitude if we are going to put-down these types of events in the future.
